How to create a route in the NV Charts app and / or use the auto-routing function?

How-To create Routes in the NV Charts App

There is a possibility to create a route manually or automatically or to use both variants combined.

Create route manually
To create a new route, open the quick menu by holding down on the map. The menu will then open in the appropriate place and you can select whether you want to create a new marker, route, bearing or POI at that location.

Select "Route" and the first waypoint is created at the previously selected location. Use the "Auto Route" slider at the bottom of the screen to disable automatic route creation, allowing you to add waypoints manually and one at a time.
You can also autocomplete a manual route section by section.
To do this, simply turn auto-routing back on for a section and the waypoints will be automatically connected along the route network  As soon as you want to continue manually, you can deactivate the AutoRouting again and the waypoints will be connected directly.
To set the next waypoint, tap at your desired location on the map and hold the click for about one second. A blue bar will appear indicating how much longer you need to hold until the waypoint is created. Continue by adding more waypoints now in the same way.

You can undo the setting of the last waypoint in each case using the "Back" button below.
Once you are satisfied with your route, tap the "Done" button at the bottom of your screen.
By the way, routes can also be transferred well from paper to the app (or the other way around). To do this, each WP can be positioned using the coordinates read from the map. To do this, simply enter the coordinates in the properties of the WPs.
Deg Min Dec or Deg Min Sec can be entered separated by spaces.

Auto routing
There are 2 possibilities for automatic route input:
1. via the direct link in a POI
2. via the automatic completion between the entered waypoints.
In the first variant, the route is searched from the current position directly to the POI over the shortest distance. The starting point can be moved later by holding down and intermediate waypoints can be added by holding down and dragging to the side.
In the second variant, a start waypoint is created first. To do this, open the quick menu by holding down on the map. The menu will then open at the appropriate location and you can select whether you want to create a new marker, route, bearing or POI at that location.
Select "Route" and the first waypoint is created at the previously selected location. Make sure that "Auto Route" is enabled using the slider at the bottom of the screen.
To set the next waypoint, tap at your desired location on the map and hold the click for about a second. A blue bar will appear indicating how much longer you need to hold until the waypoint is created. The segments between the waypoints are automatically routed with the shortest path in each case and additional waypoints are added automatically if necessary.
It is sufficient to set - next to the start waypoint - the waypoint at your desired destination. The route from start to destination will then be generated automatically.
You can undo the setting of the last waypoint in each case using the "Back" button below.
Once you are satisfied with your route, tap the "Done" button at the bottom of your screen.

For both variants, the set ship values for mast height, width, length and draught up to 10 m are taken into account. The route calculation also takes into account
usual traffic routes and restrictions due to traffic separation areas. To correct routes manually, you can use the function to create a route section manually from a certain waypoint. To do this, press a WP and deactivate "Autoroute from WP" in the properties of the WP. Proceed in the same way as for manual route creation. As soon as further waypoints should be connected automatically again, "Autoroute from WP" can be activated again. It may happen that a part of the route cannot be created automatically. These route sections are shown dashed.
It should be EXPRESSLY mentioned that the auto-routing function cannot replace route planning and cruise preparations on board. It is, just like the app as a whole, a navigation aid to complement the navigation on board. Once you have created the route, we recommend that you carefully follow it in a large zoom level and check for obstacles and other possible hazards. Use paper and digital charts together to make navigation safer and clear for everyone on board. Safe navigation in relation to wind and current should also be mentioned here. For example, greater distance from shore can be useful in onshore winds.
Transfer the route to your current NV Verlag nautical charts for the region. This is of course for safety, but it is also a good way to review the route and discuss it with everyone on board. At the same time you practice all practical navigation methods.
